WHERE IT ALL STARTED

At Exeter Formula Student, each year brings new challenges and innovations as our team evolves. From our first entry with the XTR1 to the XRX's notable performance, our student-built cars reflect our commitment and progress. Passing scrutineering and competing in events are significant milestones for our projects, highlighting the dedication behind every design.

XR11 - 2025

About:

Learning from previous experiences and challenges, the XR11 is poised to build on the achievements of the XRX. With a core team carried over from last year, we have focused on refining our processes and addressing past issues. The continuity in our team and the lessons learned ensure that the XR11 will be a significant step forward. While cautious optimism guides us, the groundwork laid this year promises a strong and competitive showing in the upcoming competiton.

XRX - 2024

About:

In 2024, we introduced the XRX at the Silverstone competition. The car successfully passed the Chassis, Tech, Safety, and Tilt tests but encountered several technical issues during the Noise test, ultimately running out of time. Despite these challenges, having a car with a full aero package after not fielding a complete car the previous year was a significant achievement. This year marked one of our best performances, with the XRX outperforming the majority of competitors. A new team dynamic however sets a strong foundation for future success.

xr09 - 2023

About:

In 2023, we brought the XR09 to the Silverstone competition, essentially presenting a concept class car at the full competition. Due to team misalignment, the XR09 lacked core features, which impacted its performance. This experience highlighted the need for better internal coordination and led to the implementation of improved structures and processes for the following year. The challenges faced with the XR09 were instrumental in driving our commitment to stronger team collaboration and meticulous planning in future projects.

XR08 - 2022

About:

In 2022, we introduced the XR08 and once again attended the competition at Silverstone. The XR08 successfully passed the Safety, Tech, Chassis, and Tilt scrutineering tests, reflecting our consistency. This continued success demonstrated our ongoing commitment to refining our designs and improving our performance, solidifying our presence in the Formula Student competition.

XR07b - 2021

XRE01

About:

In 2021, we unveiled the XR07B, an iteration of our previous design, and attended the competition at Silverstone. The XR07B successfully passed Safety, Tech, Chassis, and Tilt scrutineering, and achieved our highest-ever finish, placing 22nd. While this placement was notable, it’s important to mention that the competition saw a smaller number of entries, due to covid-19. Alongside XR07B, we entered into the concept class with a proposed electric design, XRE01, to gather valuable feedback, marking a significant step towards our future transition to electric vehicles.

XR07 - 2020

About:

In 2020, we introduced the XR07, which showed promising advancements in design and engineering. Unfortunately, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted our plans, preventing us from showcasing the XR07 at competitions. Despite this setback, the development of the XR07 provided valuable experience and laid the groundwork for future projects, reinforcing our resilience and dedication to the Formula Student program.

XR06 - 2019

About:

In 2019, we launched the XR06, which achieved a notable milestone by completing all dynamic events. This accomplishment reflected our progress in engineering and design, and provided valuable insights for future improvements. The XR06's performance was a step forward in our Formula Student journey, reinforcing our commitment to refining our approach and enhancing our competitive edge.

XR05 - 2018

About:

In 2018, our team proudly presented the XR05, a car that marked a significant milestone in our Formula Student journey. The XR05 successfully passed scrutineering, demonstrating our improved engineering standards and attention to detail. This achievement allowed us to compete in the Endurance event, where we showcased our vehicle’s reliability and performance. The experience with the XR05 not only highlighted our progress but also provided crucial feedback that drove further innovation and refinement in our subsequent designs. This was also our first time running our now signature number of 99!

XR04 - 2017

About:

In 2017, our team introduced the XR04, and alongside it a return to traditional naming scheme. The XR04 continued our evolution with a focus on refining our design and engineering processes. Although the XR04 did not pass the scrutineering process, it made a notable impact by participating in FSUK after the prior years failure to do so. This experience provided invaluable insights and underscored the importance of meticulous preparation and attention to detail. The challenges faced with the XR04 were instrumental in shaping our approach for future projects and reaffirming our commitment to excellence in the Formula Student competition.

XR16 - 2016

About:

In 2016, under our new name XRacing, we introduced the XR16, a car that showcased our bold ambitions and innovative vision. With a focus on top-tier aerodynamic design, the XR16 was a significant leap forward in concept, largely realized through CAD designs with only limited physical construction. Despite our efforts, the car did not advance to competition. Nonetheless, the project was a valuable exercise in pushing the boundaries of our engineering capabilities and set the stage for future advancements.

Xtr-3 - 2015

About:

In our third year, Exeter Formula Student unveiled the XTR-3, continuing our journey of growth and development. The XTR-3 successfully completed the Safety, Tech, Chassis, and Tilt tests during scrutineering. Although we did not progress beyond these stages, the experience provided us with crucial insights and highlighted areas for improvement. This year reinforced our resolve to refine our engineering processes and strive for greater achievements in future competitions. This would also be our final year under the name Exeter Formula Student.

XtR-2 - 2014

About:

In our second year, the team proudly presented the XTR-2, eager to build upon our initial success. The XTR-2 successfully passed scrutineering and participated in both the Sprint and Endurance events. Although we faced challenges and encountered tougher competition, these experiences were invaluable. They provided us with critical insights and reinforced our commitment to excellence, setting the stage for future progress and innovation in the Formula Student competition.

Xtr-1 - 2013

About:

In its inaugural year, Exeter Formula Student proudly introduced the XTR-1, a vehicle that marked our debut in the competitive arena. Demonstrating our engineering prowess and dedication, the XTR-1 successfully passed the rigorous scrutineering process, allowing us to participate in key events including acceleration, sprint, and endurance. Our hard work and determination culminated in a respectable 62nd place finish, laying a strong foundation for future endeavors and setting a benchmark for continuous improvement
